Department of Theatre Series | In Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning play, the Salem witch trials serve as the metaphorical backdrop for this ruthless exposé of power and self-interest in its insidious forms: accusation, confession, absolution, ritual, and compliance. The Proctor family bears the burden of the mass hysteria gripping the village when teenage girls report they’ve seen various locals in the company of the Devil. Although a hunt for the truth allegedly ensues, what actually occurs is an exploration of true integrity in the face of prevailing social forces.
